“As the nation prepares for the 2024 elections, false claims that the 2020 presidential election was "rigged" continue to thrive on Twitter without being corrected,” the AP tweeted with a link to the article.
Musk fired back at the AP, telling the outlet to “Either back up your claims” or “retract your story."
Either back up your claims @AP with actual source data or retract your story

The article, published on Thursday, paints the picture that despite promises from Musk that Twitter would crack down on false claims of stolen elections, those very claims continue to thrive on Twitter.
“Yet many such claims have thrived on Twitter in the week since former President Donald Trump spent much of a CNN town hall digging in on his lie that the 2020 election was 'rigged' against him,” the article would explain. “Twitter posts that amplified those false claims have thousands of shares with no visible enforcement.”
The issue, as Musk points out in his response to the article, is that the AP does not cite any tweets that were supposedly elevating these claims.
“An analysis by the media intelligence firm Zignal Labs on behalf of The Associated Press surfaced the 10 most widely shared tweets promoting a “rigged election” narrative in the five days following Trump’s town hall,” the article continued. “While Twitter has a system in place for users to add context to misleading tweets, the 10 posts, which collectively amassed more than 43,000 retweets, had no such notes attached.”
The article mentions that the supposed tweets came from accounts such as Representative Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-GA) and Kari Lake (R-AZ). Yet again, however, there is no reference to any actual tweets, only blanket statements made without any concrete evidence.
As of this articles writing, the article remains published on the AP website, and there has been no response to Musk’s request by the outlet.
Twitter users joined Musk in mocking the outlet with Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton writing, "[The Associated Press], which is a far-left advocacy group that sometimes engage in journalism, wants [Twitter] to censor Americans who dare to exercise their First Amendment rights to criticize Joe Biden's election."
