RFK Jr. Condemns DNC For Shielding Biden From Debates - 'The Candidate Is Not Picked By The Party Like They Did In The Soviet Union'

Democrat Robert F. Kennedy Jr., amidst his campaign against incumbent Democrat President Joe Biden, has taken to levying withering criticism at the Democratic National Committee for the body's refusal to hold any primary debates, a move seen by many as shielding Biden from potential embarrassment. He told reporters on Tuesday at the Iowa State Fair that the party's decision to arbitrarily choose a candidate smacks of Soviet politics.

Forbes reported Kennedy, Jr. saying, "Part of having a democracy is that the public, actually the rank and file of the Democratic Party, the public gets to pick the candidate." He continued by explaining that this requires facing both the press and the public, something that even in the 2020 campaign Biden seemed loathe to do.

"The best way to pick them is to have debates and to have town halls [and] to have to do retail politics."

"Because otherwise, we have politicians who are living inside a bubble, and the only people they're talking to are the billionaires who are writing the checks," he added according to Newsmax.

Kennedy Jr., continued to describe the United States as living in a period of its history in which the government is tasked with convincing the public that "the system is not rigged against them and that we have a real democracy in our country." He noted that to that end the public must be able to choose each party's nominee.

He explained,

"The public gets to pick the candidate is not picked by the party like they do in the Soviet or they did in the Soviet Union it should be picked by the people"

"I see what's happening in the American heartland," said Kennedy. "I see the desperation, the mental illness. We've never seen anything like this before, the epidemics of opioids … the epidemics of alcoholism, of depression, drug abuse."

As previously reported by DC Enquirer, RFK, Jr. has been actively criticizing the DNC for this decision since at least June. Speaking to 'The Faulkner Focus' at the time, he quipped, "Staying in the White House and not really being out on the campaign trail is like asking a prize fighter to prepare for the big bout by sitting on the couch and eating Chick-fil-a."

"He needs to be on his toes if he is going to beat the Republican," he added.

"I think it's important to do a debate now, particularly because he will have to debate his Republican opponent," RFK, Jr. warned. "If that's Donald Trump, Donald Trump has shown his acumen at debate, and the President is really going to have to be on his toes."
