RFK Jr., Who's Father Was Assassinated, SLAMS The Biden Admin For Providing Him With NO Secret Service Protection

On Thursday, Democrat presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (D) slammed the Biden administration for providing him with no secret service protection -- which he argued was afforded to him by his 'major' presidential run.

"Since the assassination of my father [Robert F. Kennedy Sr.] in 1968, candidates for president are provided Secret Service protection. But not me," Robert F. Kennedy Jr. tweeted. "Typical turnaround time for pro forma protection requests from presidential candidates is 14-days. After 88-days of no response and after several follow-ups by our campaign, the Biden Administration just denied our request."

"Secretary Mayorkas: 'I have determined that Secret Service protection for Robert F Kennedy Jr is not warranted at this time.' Our campaign's request included a 67-page report from the world's leading protection firm, detailing unique and well established security and safety risks aside from commonplace death threats," Kennedy Jr. added

According to the Secret Service website, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary has the prerogative to determine who are 'major presidential candidates'. As a result of his determination, made in consultation with key members of Congress, the Secret Service is authorized to provide protection for major presidential and vice presidential candidates.

What constitutes a 'major candidate'? ABC News previously reported the following criteria:

  • "They are a publicly declared candidates."
  • "They are actively campaigning nationally and are contesting at least 10 state primaries."
  • "Are pursuing the nomination of a qualified party, one whose presidential candidate received at least 10% of the popular vote in the prior election."
  • "Are qualified for public matching funds of at least $100,000, and have raised at least $10 million in additional contributions."
  • "Have received by April 1 of the election year an average of 5 percent in individual candidate preferences in the most recent national opinion polls by ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN, or have received at least 10 percent of the votes cast for all candidates in two same-day or consecutive primaries or caucuses."
Robert F. Kennedy Jr, in light of the tragedy that happened to his father, has a legitimate case here -- with the caveat that it may be too early to make a determination about how 'major' his campaign is. As Collin Rugg, co-founder of Trending Politics, tweeted, even Hunter Biden, with his criminal track record and all, is afforded Secret Service protection.

"Below is tax fraud, drug-addicted Hunter Biden with his 6 car motorcade showing up to court," Rugg said, tweeting out a video of the president's son pulling up to court. 'Protection for me but not for thee.'"

If Robert F. Kennedy Jr. qualifies as a 'major candidate,' it is clear that he is afforded Secret Service protection. He has sizable support in a race against the sitting president and is bringing to light many issues virtually ignored by the Democratic Party in 2023. For that, he deserves praise.
