On Monday, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) called upon the Department of Justice to remove United States Attorney Davis Weiss's special counsel status. Weiss is currently overseeing the investigation into Joe Biden's embattled son, Hunter Biden, and was recently appointed as special counsel by Biden Attorney General Merrick Garland.
"An independent special counsel is needed in this case," Graham tweeted. "It is abundantly clear Mr. Weiss needs to be removed from the investigation of Hunter Biden. To say this has been botched is an understatement."
"I have been calling for a new set of eyes on this case for quite a while. A huge cloud hangs over the Weiss investigative team and it will only go away when a new independent special counsel is appointed," Graham added.
Weiss's actions, including the sweetheart plea deal he obtained for Hunter Biden, have been incredibly controversial. Indeed, House Oversight Chair James Comer (R-KY) agreed with Graham's sentiment, saying in a statement, “This move by Attorney General Garland is part of the Justice Department’s efforts to attempt a Biden family coverup in light of the House Oversight Committee’s mounting evidence of President Joe Biden’s role in his family’s schemes selling ‘the brand’ for millions of dollars to foreign nationals."
"The Justice Department’s misconduct and politicization in the Biden criminal investigation already allowed the statute of limitations to run with respect to egregious felonies committed by Hunter Biden," Comer continued. "Justice Department officials refused to follow evidence that could have led to Joe Biden, tipped off the Biden transition team and Hunter Biden’s lawyers about planned interviews and searches, and attempted to sneakily place Hunter Biden on the path to a sweetheart plea deal. Let’s be clear what today’s move is really about. The Biden Justice Department is trying to stonewall congressional oversight as we have presented evidence to the American people about the Biden family’s corruption."
Similarly, Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) called for David Weiss to testify before Congress, saying the Department of Justice was involved in a coverup of the highest order.
"Moments ago, I spoke with Chairman @Jim_Jordan and members of the House Judiciary Committee. We will be demanding that Special Counsel David Weiss must come to Congress and testify under oath on the investigation into the Biden Crime Family. Weiss's appointment is just the next step in the cover up after the sweetheart plea deal didn't work," Gaetz posted.
If true, House Republicans must act to ensure the integrity of our justice system. We, the people, demand prosecutorial integrity and that means taking every action possible to ensure outcomes that work for all Americans, no matter their status.
