"Senator, I have put together the chart showing the two variables you were trying to link," Wolfers posted, responding to an earlier tweet of Vance's where the senator argued that increased migration is coupled with a dramatic rent price increase. Vance also implicitly suggests that the average household income raise is insufficient to explain this rise.
Senator Vance responded to this tweet with fire and fury. He asserted the leftist economist's chart was filled with basic errors that made its claims essentially vacuous.
"An obvious issue here is that the green line is cumulative and the yellow is annualized. People rightly point out that college professors are left wing ideologues. A bigger issue with people like Wolfers is that he has an IQ of 110 but thinks it’s 140," Vance tweeted.Senator, I have put together the chart showing the two variables you were trying to link. https://t.co/edC45zOqoK pic.twitter.com/IFVDvPRQAU

"Another obvious issue: the yellow line measures growth rate year over year, not net Increases. In other words, a drop from 1m one head to 900k the next would be coded as a “decrease” even though the country needed to find 1.9m new homes," Vance explained.
Vance continued, tweeting, "A third obvious issue: pretty sure the yellow line measures only legal immigration. I am worried about total numbers, of which illegal immigration is the largest part. No one can argue total immigration has decreased over the last 23 years, misleading charts be damned."Another obvious issue: the yellow line measures growth rate year over year, not net Increases. Vance ended by arguing these facts demand action from the Biden Administration -- we must stop illegal immigration.Fourth point: many, many papers, in addition to common sense, show a strong relationship between immigration inflows and rent increase. Here’s one example. There are many more. https://t.co/oA1FiuScSW

"So I’ll repeat myself: stop the Biden border crisis, stop the invasion of our country, and you’ll tamp down on housing inflation. The Left can deal with this reality, or continue robbing their own citizens blind with their border policies," Vance ended.
