Biden And The FBI 'Are Not Above The Law': Speaker McCarthy Will Charge FBI Director Wray If He Doesn't Hand Over Document Laying Out Biden's Bribery Scheme

On Tuesday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) voiced his support for holding FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress after he failed to comply with the House Oversight Committee.

For context, the House Oversight Committee had asked Wray to hand over documents surrounding the international business dealings of the Biden family. Wray's failure to immediately comply with that request has generated significant backlash among Congressional Republicans, who are taking actions to hold Joe Biden accountable. As a result, Wray faces potential contempt of Congress charges if the FBI fails to address the Oversight Committee's legitimate concerns.

"Today is the deadline. So let me not just tell you, let me tell Director Christopher Wray right here, right now," McCarthy told Fox News's 'Fox and Friends'. "If he misses the deadline today, I’m prepared to move contempt charges in Congress against him. We have jurisdiction over this. He can send us that document. We have the right to look at that, Republicans and Democrats alike in that committee, and if he does not follow through with the law, we will move contempt charges against Christopher Wray and the FBI. They are not above the law."

Last week, the House Oversight Commitee voiced similar concerns, warning the FBI director of the consequences of not complying by the May 30th deadline.

"[Rep. James Comer] threatens to initiate contempt of Congress proceedings if FBI Director Christopher Wray continues to defy his subpoena," the House Oversight's official Twitter account posted, as previously reported by the DC Enquirer. "The FBI has failed to produce the unclassified record that alleges a criminal bribery scheme involving then-Vice President Joe Biden and a foreign national. This record is two weeks past due."

"If Director Wray fails to produce the record by May 30, 2023, the Oversight Committee will initiate contempt of Congress proceedings. The accountability we promised the American people is coming," the tweet added.

In turn, House Oversight Chair James Comer tweeted, "FBI Director Wray is defying a congressional subpoena for an unclassified record alleging a criminal scheme involving then-VP Joe Biden and a foreign national. If Director Wray refuses to hand over this record, @GOPoversight will begin contempt of Congress proceedings."
House Republicans are acting to give Americans the answers they desperately deserve. Our public officials work for us.
