'The Victims And Their Families Deserve The Truth': Woke Water Official Exposed For Potentially Delaying Response To Maui Wildfire, Said Sharing Water Requires 'Equity'

On Tuesday, businessman and Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy took to Twitter to slam the recent actions of woke first deputy of the Commission on Water Resource Management (CWRM), M. Kaleo Manuel, after 111 people have been confirmed dead by the deadly Maui wildfires.

"There’s a dark but hard TRUTH to the Maui catastrophe that has led to over 110 tragic deaths," Ramaswamy tweeted. "As wildfires raged, desperate residents petitioned state officials to send more water for firefighting & to help protect their properties from fire. That request went unanswered for hours, withholding critical aid to islanders."

"Now we’re learning that the official who delayed the approval is an Obama Foundation 'Asia Pacific Leader' & a climate activist who believes water should be 'revered' first and foremost. The DEI agenda is literally costing people their lives. Hawaii’s Democrat governor, Josh Green, says there are people 'fighting against the release of water to fight fires' & that it needs to be explored further," Ramaswamy continued. "The No. 1 responsibility of government is to protect its citizens. The victims and their families deserve the TRUTH."

As Ramaswamy notes, the Honolulu Civil Beat recently reported that "According to accounts of four people with knowledge of the situation, M. Kaleo Manuel, a Native Hawaiian cultural practitioner and DLNR’s deputy director for water resource management, initially balked at West Maui Land Co.’s requests for additional water to help prevent the fire from spreading to properties managed by the company."

"Manuel wanted West Maui Land to get permission from a taro, or kalo, farm located downstream from the company’s property. Manuel eventually released water but not until after the fire had spread. It was not clear on Monday how much damage the fire did in the interim or whether homes were damaged," the Honolulu Civil Beat adds.

While this is a developing story, a recent video shows M. Kaleo Manuel, the official in question, discussing his approach to water distribution, saying, "Native Hawaiians treated water as one of the earthly manifestations of a god...We've become used to looking at water as something that we use, and not something that we revere...We can reconnect to that traditional value set."

"We can share it, but it requires true conversations about equity," Manuel remarked.

The Honolulu Civil Beat also notes that Governor Josh Green (D-HI) has expressed openness to exploring the cause of the 'water conflict.' Moreover, while the story is fast-moving, the Honolulu Civil Beat adds that Manuel has been reassigned by the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR). The statement announcing the reassignment adds that the move is not a sign that Manuel has done anything wrong. Attorney General Anne Lopez (D-HI) is currently investigating actions taken during the lead-up and aftermath of the fire.
