'They're Not Negotiating. They're Conspiring': Republicans BLAST The DOJ After Latest Move To Obstruct Congress In Hunter Biden Investigation

On Friday, Attorney General Merrick Garland officially appointed a special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden with U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who is currently investigating the president's son during an IRS probe, being selected for the case. In addition, the lawyers responsible for Hunter's failed plea deal rescinded the charges related to that matter to supposedly bring them to another venue.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, AG Garland announced the appointment of US Attorney Weiss to investigate Hunter Biden not only for the charges already brought against him but also for any additional charges that may stem from ongoing investigations.

"On Tuesday of this week, Mr. Weiss advised me that in his judgment, his investigation had reached a stage at which he could should continue his work as a special counsel, and he asked to be so appointed," Garland said.

"Upon considering his request, as well as the extraordinary circumstances relating to this matter," Garland explained at the announcement. "I have concluded that it is in the public interest to appoint him as special counsel."

While the appointment of a special counsel may seem beneficial for those seeking justice in the case against the president's son, House Republicans took issue with the announcement given that it would provide David Weiss the ability to ignore House investigations into his potential slow walking of the Hunter Biden probe.

In response to this development, Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) wrote, "This action by Biden’s DOJ cannot be used to obstruct congressional investigations or whitewash the Biden family corruption. If Weiss negotiated the sweetheart deal that couldn’t get approved, how can he be trusted as a Special Counsel? House Republicans will continue to pursue the facts for the American people."

"Crooked Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and the entire Biden Crime Family have been protected by the Justice Department for decades even though there is overwhelming evidence and credible testimony detailing their wrongdoing of lying to the American people and selling out the country to foreign enemies for the Biden Cartel’s own financial gain," 45th President Trump and Biden's leading political opponent wrote in a statement.

"If this special counsel is truly independent - even though he failed to bring proper charges after a four year investigation and he appears to be trying to move the case to a more Democrat-friendly venue he will quickly conclude that Joe Biden, his troubled son Hunter, and their enablers, including the media, which colluded with the 51 intelligence officials who knowingly misled the public about Hunter’s laptop, should face the required consequences," the statement concluded.

In addition to the appointment of a special counsel, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-MO) pointed out that the DOJ has dismissed the charges against Hunter Biden that once were being considered in the plea deal to then refile them in another venue.

"Biden's DOJ wants to dismiss the charges against Hunter, *supposedly* to refile them elsewhere, no doubt before some liberal judge who will rubber-stamp a sweetheart deal," Cotton wrote. "Remember, when Biden's DOJ and Hunter's lawyers meet, they're not negotiating. They're conspiring."
