On Monday, new details emerged in the ongoing legal battle between Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and Trump co-defendant Michael Roman. In a recent filing by Roman's lawyer, Willis is accused of "cohabitating" with Special Prosecutor Nathan Wade in her home beginning in 2019 and sharing a taxpayer-funded AirB&B together as a "safe house." The filing alleges that there are witnesses that prove Wade "cohabitated" with Willis at her home in South Fulton.
The new accusations came after both Willis and Wade told a court that their relationship began in 2022, two years before Wade was appointed to the DA's office in 2021. "Fani Willis better go ahead and resign," Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) wrote in response to the accusations. "This is about to get a lot worse for her." The accusations, if true, could lead to potential legal trouble in the form of perjury for the Georgia prosecutor, given that she had already testified to a court that the relationship began much sooner than what was alleged. The punishment for perjury in Georgia is a fine of $1,000, a prison sentence between one to ten years, or both.
In the lengthy document submitted to the court last week, Willis admitted to the personal relationship with Wade but argued that the allegations against her are "meritless" and "salacious." She went on to argue that the judge should reject any attempt by Trump or the various co-defendants from attempting to get her removed from the case. She also argued that there was no evidence that the relationship between Wade and herself impacted her work.
As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Nathan Wade's estranged wife, Joycelyn Wade, submitted a document to the Cobb County courthouse showing that the special prosecutor had paid for plane tickets for Fani Willis and himself to San Fransisco and Miami. The submission of the document comes after former Trump aid Michael Roman's lawyer Ashleigh Merchant filed a motion arguing that the duo prosecuting Trump were engaged in a romantic relationship that led to Willis paying him an exorbitant salary to then spend on lavish vacations. The district has paid Wade over $650,000 since he joined the office in November 2021.
In addition to facing potential legal consequences stemming from her relationship with Wade, Willis also faces articles of impeachment from the Georgia legislature. Last week, Georgia State Representative Charlice Byrd (R) introduced articles of impeachment against Willis following the surfacing of the corruption allegations.
"Fani Willis has a laundry list of potential conflicts that make her unworthy and unfit to be the District Attorney in Fulton County," Rep. Byrd said. "Someone elected to that office is expected to uphold the law and not weaponize their office for political gain. Since Day One when she was elected, Fani Willis has embarrassed the criminal justice system in Fulton County and our state."
The various accusations against Fani Willis are growing by the day as she faces increasing scrutiny from state officials and the various co-defendants she is going after in the Trump case. If the accusations against her are true, she could face legal trouble in the coming months that may force her to resign from office.
