Former President Donald Trump (R) gave a speech at the two-day long “America First Policy Institute” fundraiser on Tuesday, which included prominent GOP guests from across the conservative movement — as he attempts to curry favor with potential backers, while he decides whether or not to make another White House run in 2024.
The speech covered a wide range of topics with inflation, law enforcement, and border security being Trump’s main areas of focus. He did, however, also give the audience a glimpse of what a potential run in 2024 might look like.
“I always say I ran the first time and I won, then I ran a second time and I did much better,” Trump said on the topic of running for a third time. “We may just have to do it again. We have to straighten out our country.”
The former president stated he looks, “forward to laying out many more details in the weeks and months to come,” supporting the idea that the 45th president will announce another campaign sometime this Fall.
Trump went on to attack President Joe Biden specifically on inflation, the southern border, crime, and the war in Ukraine adding that the US is “now a cesspool of crime.”
“We have blood, death, and suffering on a scale once unthinkable,” he proclaimed.
On the rising crime surges seen throughout American cities, Trump said, “The country is going to hell and it is going to hell very fast. It is a very unsafe place. We need the largest increase in the hiring of police officers in American history. We will get that done.”
“We are a nation in decline,” he continued. “We are a failing nation.”

One of the most impactful crises of the Biden administration, thus far, has been the surge of illegal immigrants and drugs across the southern border — which reportedly constitutes a $13 billion a year human trafficking business.
“The next Republican president must immediately implement every aspect of the Trump agenda that achieved the most secure border in history,” the former president explained.
He also proposed a joint “violent crime task force composed of the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security” to fight back against violent drug cartels by, “destroying these organizations. Trump then pushed for more severe penalties to be used against drug pushers.
“If you look at countries throughout the world, the ones that don’t have a drug problem are those that institute a very quick trial. Death penalty sentence for drug dealers. It sounds horrible, doesn’t it? But you know what? Those are the ones that don’t have any problem.” Trump stated. “It doesn’t take 15 years in court, it goes quickly and you absolutely execute a drug dealer and you save 500 lives.”
With regard to the mainstream media and the Democrat-led January 6th Committee, he accused such entities of wanting to “damage” him, so he can no longer serve the American public by holding higher office.
“If I renounced my beliefs, if I agreed to stay silent, if I stayed at home and just took it easy, the persecution of Donald Trump would stop immediately,” he claimed. “But that’s not what I will do. I can’t do that.”
The New York billionaire concluded the speech by explaining his view of the future.
“America’s story is far from over and in fact, we are just getting ready for an incredible comeback. A comeback that we have no choice but to make,” he said. “We don’t have a choice. We won’t have a country if we don’t make it. Through strength we will restore our safety. Through hard work we will rebuild our prosperity. Through courage, we will reclaim our liberty. Through love, we will repair our unity.
“Through success, we will rediscover our pride. And through our unyielding determination together, we will make America stronger, safer, freer, greater, and more glorious than ever before.”
