WATCH: Trump Received Roaring Applause Discussing Overturning Roe v. Wade – 'It Was Such A Great Victory'

On Wednesday’s CNN town hall, 45th President Donald Trump spoke of the landmark decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, with Trump calling it “a great victory.”

A voter at the town hall hosted by CNN asked the former president how he was going to “appeal to women voters in New Hampshire who are concerned about the Dobbs decision and how states may change their laws.”

The Dobbs decision referred to in the question is the recent Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned the previous precedent of Roe. v. Wade and returned abortion legislation to state lawmakers. The decision was reached back in June of 2022 and has had major effects on abortion access across the states.

Trump responded to the question with “It was such a great victory, and people are starting to understand it now. You know that they wanted to bring it back to the States, but that was probably the least important part of that victory. Getting rid of Roe v. Wade was an incredible thing for pro-life because it gave pro-life something to negotiate with. Pro-life had absolutely nothing being stuck in Roe v. Wade to negotiate with. And now what’s happening, and I see it all over, deals are being made. Deals are going to be made, and look, everybody that was precedent tried to get rid of –”

Donald Trump was cut off by Kaitlin Collins, the host of the CNN town hall, when she said that only Republicans were the ones hoping to get rid of Roe v. Wade. Donald Trump agreed with Collins, before continuing his statement: “Republicans, for 50 years this has been going on, actually a couple of Democrats too. But for 50 years, this has been going on. I was able to do it and very honored to do it. But by doing it, things are happening that are very, very positive.”

Donald Trump also noted that he does believe in the expectations of abortion in cases that involve rape, incest, and a threat to the mother's life, adding that he and former President Ronald Reagan share the same view on that. Trump said that he thinks “it’s frankly important to do that, but a lot of people are against that,” saying that it’s only a “relatively small number” of opposers though.

Trump stated that “I consider the other side to be radical, because the other side under Roe v. Wade, and other things, the other side, they’re radical because they will – Remember the debate with Hillary Clinton? They said ‘rip the baby out of the womb at the end of the ninth month,’ they will kill the baby in the ninth month.”

When asked whether he would sign legislation as president that would ban abortion nationwide, Trump said that he “would negotiate so that people are happy.” Trump highlighted the pro-life side now can negotiate with pro-abortion groups, saying that it was something that they “didn’t have before.”

The overturning was undoubtedly a major turning point in the debate on abortion and gave a major boost to the ability to protect an unborn infant's life. Trump spoke highly of his pride in being able to appoint the Supreme Court Justices that worked to overturn the precedent, and it was absolutely something to be proud of.
