Hunter struck a deal with the DOJ. As such, he will not only avoid jail time, but also will avoid prosecution on a felony charge of illegally possessing a firearm as a drug user. Hunter will reportedly only plead guilty to a misdemeanor tax offense.
“Two people familiar with the investigation said the Justice Department would recommend probation for the tax charges, meaning Hunter Biden will not face time behind bars. But the decision to go along with any deal is up to the judge. The people were not authorized to speak publicly by name and spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity,” according to a report from ABC 7 New York.
Trump, who was frivolously indicted by far-left Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in March and federally indicted by Special Counsel Jack Smith last week, slammed the deal struck with prosecutors by Hunter as “corrupt.”
In a post on his top-rated social media platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Wow! The corrupt Biden DOJ just cleared up hundreds of years of criminal liability by giving Hunter Biden a mere ‘traffic ticket.’ Our system is BROKEN!”
“People are going wild over the Hunter Biden Scam with the DOJ!” Trump added.
“The Hunter/Joe Biden settlement is a massive COVERUP & FULL SCALE ELECTION INTERFERENCE ‘SCAM’ THE LIKES OF WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN IN OUR COUNTRY BEFORE. A ‘TRAFFIC TICKET,’ & JOE IS ALL CLEANED UP & READY TO GO INTO THE 2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION - AND THIS AS CROOKED DOJ, STATE, & CITY PROSECUTORS, MARXISTS & COMMUNISTS ALL, HIT ME FROM ALL SIDES & ANGLES WITH BULL….! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” Trump also wrote.
Earlier this month, Trump pleaded not guilty to all 37 fraudulent counts relating to him supposedly “mishandling” classified documents from Special Counsel Jack Smith.
President Trump turned Jack Smith’s frivolous federal indictment of him on its head as he cited the Presidential Records Act as a defense.
In an op-ed by former Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz on Substack, he concludes that a "[c]riminal indictment of former president has no legitimate basis."
“The bottom line is that if Mr. Trump or his lawyers allege — even without his testifying — that he declassified the documents, a criminal charge of unauthorized possession of classified documents will be difficult to prove. That doesn’t mean that a prosecutor could not get a grand jury to indict this particular ham sandwich. It does mean that it’s unlikely that a conviction against Mr. Trump would be sustainable,” Dershowitz writes.
“Based on what we know, we believe that there is no legitimate basis for a criminal indictment of Mr. Trump based on the material that was found at Mar-a-Lago,” Dershowitz concludes.
