On Monday, it was announced that Tucker Carlson will be leaving Fox News with the host’s final show being last Friday, April 21st.
“Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways,” the network said in a statement, according to Forbes.
“We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor,” Fox continued in its statement. “Mr. Carlson’s last program was Friday, April 21st. Fox News Tonight will air live at 8 PM/ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named.”
Following his departure, however, Carlson hired a top Hollywood lawyer to represent him. Don Lemon, who was fired from CNN on Monday as well, also obtained the services of attorney Bryan Freedman, as reported by The New York Times.
Freedman has a history of representing the top of the line clients including Chris Cuomo, Megyn Kelly, and various Hollywood celebrities like Quentin Tarantino, Julia Roberts, Mariah Carey, and Seth Rogen over the years. In various cases, he has secured large settlements such as Megyn Kelly’s full payout of her contract when she left NBC News.
The former Fox News host reportedly was blindsided by his ouster on Monday morning and indeed the entire company was out of the loop as well given that Tucker was prepping his Monday night show and the network was running ads for his program in the morning hours.
The former CNN host Brian Stelter wrote a piece in Vanity Fair claiming that Tucker Carlson’s departure from the network looked more like a firing and thus legal action is likely.
“Carlson has chosen silence at one of the most consequential moments in his life: his firing from Fox News,” Stelter wrote. “Officially, Carlson and Fox ‘agreed to part ways.’ That’s what the terse press release from Fox said. ‘We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor.’”
“Will Carlson go quietly into the night?” he added.
Given that both cable news hosts have sought out Freedman’s services, it is likely that they will pursue legal action. Once that occurs, Americans will likely get more answers as to why Tucker Carlson parted ways with the network.
