On Tuesday, it was revealed that Pentagon officials are ecstatic about Fox News‘s Tucker Carlson leaving the network after years on the air. Carlson, however, had something to say about their celebratory remarks.
According to Politico, an anonymous Pentagon official said that Tucker Carlson’s departure was good for the country since there would no longer be someone criticizing the military high command.
“We’re a better country without him bagging on our military every night in front of hundreds of thousands of people,” the official said.
“Good riddance,” said another Department of Defense official.
As reported by The Daily Wire, Carlson was requested to comment on the story to which he gave a three-word answer: “Ha! I’m sure.”
The former Fox host would regularly attack high-ranking Pentagon officials and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin for various pitfalls such as the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Carlson left Fox News on Monday with the network issuing a statement announcing his departure which seemingly came as a surprise to the entire country, including those working at Fox News.
“Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways,” the network said in a statement, according to Forbes.
“We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor,” Fox continued in its statement. “Mr. Carlson’s last program was Friday, April 21st. Fox News Tonight will air live at 8 PM/ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named.”
The journalist seems to be enjoying his time off, however, with multiple spottings in southern Florida with his wife enjoying the warm sun.
According to The Mail, Carlson emerged from his $5.5 million beach home in Boca Grande, Florida, and said, “Retirement is going great so far.”
“I haven’t eaten dinner with my wife on a weeknight in seven years,” Carlson said.
When The Daily Mail asked him about his potential future after over two decades in the cable news world, Carlson mused, “Appetizers plus entrée.”
Carlson clearly doesn’t give much thought to the various critics that are celebrating his departure. He knows that millions of Americans are looking forward to seeing what he has planned next.
