University Of Georgia's Football Team Denies Biden's Invite To The White House, Second Year In A Row To Not Visit

The University of Georgia’s football team outright rejected an invitation from President Joe Biden to celebrate their national championship game win against Texas Christian University.

The team received the invitation to visit with First Lady Jill Biden on June 12th, “College Athlete Day,” but the team responded to this invite by saying that their calendar was already completely booked, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution

The White House will instead just be hosting the Louisiana State University women’s basketball team and the University of Connecticut’s men’s basketball team.

The university football team put out a statement, stating “The University of Georgia first received on May 3 an invitation for the Bulldog football team to visit the White House on June 12. Unfortunately, the date suggested is not feasible given the student-athlete calendar and time of year. However, we are appreciative of the invitation and look forward to other opportunities for Georgia teams moving forward,” per Athens Banner-Herald

The Georgia football team also did not visit following their 2022 win, that time due to COVID-19 restrictions. The reasoning this time, as stated, is not lining up with their schedules, likely due to them only just returning to campus in June for their summer workouts, and beforehand many students not being at the campus.

LSU just announced on Monday that they would be accepting their invitation to the White House on May 26th. There had been speculation as to whether LSU would visit the White House, as Jill Biden previously suggested that both LSU and the Iowa Hawkeyes visit the White House to celebrate strides being made in women’s sports, however the first lady then later walked back her comments, per USA Today

The Biden’s have yet to host the College Football Champions yet during their tenure in the White House, and now the excuse of COVID is gone as well, making it all the more embarrassing for them. The statement from the University of Georgia is undoubtedly meant to be formal and respectful but to not make time for the actual President of the United States is a clear slap in the face to Biden and his administration, though most Americans wouldn't blame them for sitting the visit out.
