WATCH: Don Lemon Says He’ll ‘Have The Summer Of A 12-Year-Old’ With Fiancé Tim Malone Following CNN Firing — Might Not Seek Another Job

A few days after his dramatic and long-anticipated termination from CNN, Don Lemon appeared on the red carpet at the Time 100 Gala in New York City, where Extra’s Tommy DiDario caught up with him.

In the interview reported by the entertainment outlet, Lemon repeated the claim that his termination came as a surprise to him, a notion refuted by CNN’s PR team but told DiDario, “Life goes on. That’s behind me and we’ll see what happens in the future.”

Lemon continued, “I live my life with no regrets and whatever I did, I did, I owned.” The former CNN anchor added, “I don’t look back and don’t want to change things in the past… Onward.”

The conversation took an interesting, if not cryptic turn regarding Lemon’s plans for his future. He told the Extra reporter, “I’m gonna spend my summer on the beach and on the boat, and with my family. Just chill out and then I’ll see what happens next, but I’m fortunate enough to be in a position where I can do that.”

The next statement he gave was telling,

“I have time,” Lemon said. “I don’t have to rush to another job, even if I want another job.”

Lemon concluded that he is “excited for a new chapter,” and added, “I think life is short, and whatever life hands you, you have to bob and weave and do it. I didn’t think I would be at work one evening and get a phone call that my sister had died, but I had to deal with that. I didn’t think that my dad would die young of diabetes… So there are lots of things that come your way that are unexpected, but I’m a survivor. I come from strong, sturdy stock in Louisiana and a lot of people are rooting for me and who love me.”

Speaking with other reporters Lemon told one, “I didn’t lose my job, I lost my sister. A job is something that is not as important as a person.”

When asked by a TIME reporter what influence he left at CNN he responded “Why don’t you ask my colleagues about that.”

Asked about his plans, Lemon said he would be “sitting on the beach with this gentleman all summer and having a great summer,” motioning to his fiancé Tim Malone. He added, “I’m going to have the summer of a 12-year-old.”
