On Sunday, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) argued for the legitimacy of removing the leading Republican presidential contender and 45th President Donald J. Trump from the ballot in 2024, due to purported violations of the 14th Amendment.
“I think it is a valid argument. You know, the 14th Amendment, Section 3 is pretty clear," Schiff said during a Monday appearance on MSNBC's 'Inside With Jen Psaki.' "If you engage in acts of insurrection or rebellion against the government, or you give aid and comfort to those who do, you are disqualified from running; It doesn’t require that you be convicted of insurrection. It just requires that you have engaged in these acts. It’s a disqualification from holding office again, and it fits Donald Trump to a T."
The American Civil War heavily contextualizes section 3 of the 14th Amendment. Even a liberal reading of the amendment would not disqualify Trump from being on the ballot; as such, Schiff's claim is utterly novel and has no basis in reality. Trump is no insurrectionist, nor did he aid any 'insurrection.' These claims are absolutely unbecoming of a sitting US congressman, but they are not unexpected. After all, Adam Schiff was the same congressman who so potently pushed the 'Russia Collusion' hoax -- and, as such, patriotic Americans all over the nation refuse to take the California congressman seriously.
Nonetheless, Schiff continued, saying, "I think this will be tested when a secretary of state either refuses to put him on the ballot or puts him on the ballot and is challenged by a litigant. I would imagine it would go up to the Supreme Court, and that’s the big question mark through all of this, which is what will the Supreme Court do?"
Indeed, efforts to remove Trump from the ballot are already making their way to the nation's highest court -- and we, the people, hope and pray that the Supreme Court takes action, interpreting the Constitution sensibly and without bias, bias so often definitive of the left.
Schiff concluded by saying, "There are prominent constitutional scholars, as well as prominent progressive scholars who believe that he should be disqualified. But will the Court take that step? ultimately, only time will tell, but I do think it is a very legitimate issue. By the clear terms of the 14th Amendment, he should be disqualified from holding office."
It is telling that Schiff distinguished between constitutional scholars and progressive ones. But he is exactly right -- the left has virtually no respect for the Constitution, or America as established. The American people demand better.
