On Sunday, 'Sound of Freedom' producer Eduardo Verástegui joined 'Fox & Friends' to discuss the film's massive success amid news that the film has grossed nearly $25 million in its second weekend in theaters.
"All the experts in Hollywood tell us that this is not a good film for them, that nobody will go see this film," the producer said after studios like Disney refused to show the film. Eventually, the film's producers approached Angel Studios, and, five years after production concluded, the movie reached theaters.
"After praying to God for a miracle to happen for this film, please send an angel to rescue this film, Angel Studios rescued this film and, because of them, millions of people are seeing this film in these ten days, more than 5 million people showed up in theaters, and I can't believe that this is happening," Verástegui said. "I feel like I'm dreaming. This is the American dream. I'm holding the American dream right now. It's all glory to God. This is a miracle."
The producer explained that the movie, despite controversy created by the mainstream media, has a higher purpose in hopes of ending child trafficking.
"I close my eyes every day in the morning, [asking] What if this is my son? What if he is missing? What would I do? I will stop everything that I'm doing, and I will give my life to find my child," he explained, as reported by Fox News Digital. "Well, that's my motivation. I'm waking up every day to fight for four children to end child trafficking."
"I don't want to wait. I don't want to wait for this tragedy to come to my life for me to wake up. I want to wake up now," he added.
The film has, as of this report, grossed over $85 million, per Box Office Mojo. That success is likely due to a number of factors but the fact that the movie has made more money on its second weekend than its first goes to show that 'Sound of Freedom' is just getting started.
As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, the movie is about the real-life child sex trafficking ring that exists throughout Latin America and the United States. The movie itself is based on the true story of Tim Ballard, a former CIA agent, who becomes frustrated only capturing people who watched child pornography in the United States and not catching those responsible for making the evil product.
The movie has even prompted 45th President Donald Trump to host the film on July 17th at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey alongside the producers and stars.
Thanks to the film's popularity, more and more Americans are becoming aware of child trafficking and the film has surely made "a movement."
