WATCH: Ted Cruz Reveals The Truth About Alejandro Mayorkas - 'He's Openly Defying Federal Law'

On Wednesday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) joined Martha MacCallum on Fox News's 'The Story' to discuss the growing crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border and the incompetence of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas who is currently facing potential impeachment in the House of Representatives.

Articles of impeachment were first introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) back in November following the death of two of her constituents in Texas. As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, eight people, including two Americans, were tragically killed in a head-on collision in Batesville, Texas, in November after a smuggler of illegal immigrants crashed into an SUV driven by two Georgia residents. The first impeachment hearing was held on Wednesday by Republican Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-TN).

"Look, I think the House is doing exactly the right thing," Sen. Cruz said about the hearing. "I think Alejandro Mayorkas should be impeached. I think he should have been impeached two years ago. You got to understand it's not that Mayorkas is bad at his job. It's that he is openly defying federal law. He is not trying to secure the border. He is instead trying to accelerate illegal immigration. He is trying to process illegal immigrants faster. We've had over that Joe Biden's entire tenure 9.6 million illegal immigrants flood into this country. And Mayorkas is ignoring the laws on the books and is subjecting the American people to enormous risk."

"We've seen crime, we see children being brutalized, we see women being sexually assaulted, we see over 100,000 drug overdoses last year, the highest in history," Cruz explained, per Breitbart. "Seventy percent of that is Chinese fentanyl flooding across the southern border. And those body bags are very much the fault of Alejandro Mayorkas, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris. And so, I salute the house for doing the right thing. It needs to be done. This needs to stop."

According to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), agents at the southern border encountered over 300,000 migrants at the southern border for December, a record. December also saw the highest border crossings in a single day, with 12,000 on December 5. Secretary Mayorkas has failed the American people, and his unwillingness to secure the southern border has led to millions of illegal migrants entering the country without being processed. House Republicans must continue on their path to impeaching the failed Biden appointee, and if impeached, Mayorkas would be the first cabinet secretary to be removed from office since 1876. He deserves such treatment as he blatantly, as Sen. Cruz explained, defies federal law.
