During his arrival at a Manhattan court on Monday, Donald J. Trump blasted the New York hush-money case against him as a "political persecution" overseen by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) and, ultimately, by President Joseph R. Biden himself. "This is an assault on America. Nothing like this has ever happened before. There's never been anything like it. Every legal scholar says this case is nonsense; it never has been brought. There has never been anything like this. There is no case, and they have said it. People that do not necessarily like Donald Trump said this is an outrage that this case was brought."
The 45th president is correct here -- even registered Democrats know these charges are outrageous. For instance, distinguished constitutional scholar Alan Dershowitz -- no man of the right -- told the National Desk in March, "This is targeting and weaponizing not the American way of justice. A very sad day for justice. Look, we haven't seen the indictment. We can't be sure; maybe they have a videotape of him shooting somebody on Fifth Avenue. But based on what we know about this case, it may be one of the weakest cases in my six years of experience." As Fox News previously reported, Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree -- ultimately based on a novel legal theory, as ABC News adds.
As such, Donald Trump continued his remarks, adding, "This is political persecution, this is a persecution like never before. Nobody has ever seen anything like it. And again, it is a case that should have never been brought. It is an assault on America. And that is why I am very proud to be here. This is an assault on our country. It is a country that's failing. It is a country that is run by an incompetent man that is very much involved in this case. This is really an attack on a political opponent, that is all that it is. So I am very honored to be here; thank you very much."
Fortunately for the rule of law in America, Trump remains a potent force to win the presidency in 2024. The Real Clear Politics polling average has him besting Joe Biden in nationwide polling in recent months, despite the fact that Republican presidential candidates can generally afford to underperform in the popular vote while still winning the election - as they did in 2000 and 2016.
The potential for Republicans in 2024 is limitless if they effectively communicate their agenda and critique the Biden administration's 'America Last' policies. The future of our nation may very well depend on it. This means uniting around an agenda that resonates with Americans, one that champions life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all.
