The Office of Special Counsel, a government watchdog agency, has found that White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre violated the Hatch Act in the 2022 midterms by using her office to influence an election.
Jean-Pierre violated the Hatch Act, a law intended to “prevent federal employees from using their office to influence elections,” by using the term “mega MAGA Republicans” and “MAGA Republicans,” according to NBC News.
Sadly and expectedly, the Office of Special Counsel has chosen not to pursue disciplinary action and instead only issued Jean-Pierre with a warning letter.
“Because Ms. Jean‐Pierre made the statements while acting in her official capacity, she violated the Hatch Act prohibition against using her official authority or influence for the purpose of interfering with or affecting the result of an election,” Office of Special Counsel head Ana Galindo‐Marrone revealed to NBC News in a letter.
“We have decided not to pursue disciplinary action and have instead issued Ms. Jean‐Pierre a warning letter. [I]t is unclear whether OSC’s contrary analysis regarding the use of ‘MAGA Republicans’ was ever conveyed to Ms. Jean‐Pierre,” she added.
In response, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates wrote, “As has been made clear throughout the administration, we take the law seriously and uphold the Hatch Act. We are reviewing this opinion.”
This comes only a day after Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said a Burisma executive kept 17 audio recordings of his conversations with the Biden's as an “insurance policy", during a speech on the Senate Floor. This executive reportedly paid President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, $5 million as part of a bribery scheme.
Grassley says the FBI-generated FD-1023 has a “redacted reference that the Burisma executive possesses fifteen audio recordings of phone calls between himself and Hunter Biden,” according to Fox News.
The FD-1023 also reveals that the executive has two audio recordings of phone calls between himself and then-Vice President Joe Biden.
"The 1023 produced to that House Committee redacted reference that the foreign national who allegedly bribed Joe and Hunter Biden allegedly has audio recordings of his conversations with them. 17 total recordings,” Grassley said.
“According to the 1023, the foreign national possesses 15 audio recordings of phone calls between him and Hunter Biden. According to the 1023, the foreign national possesses two audio recordings of phone calls between him and then-Vice President Joe Biden,” he added.
Grassley demanded the Department of Justice and FBI show their work.“The Justice Department and FBI must show their work. They no longer deserve the benefit of the doubt,” he said.
