On Wednesday, Grammy award-winning musician Lizzo threatened to quit music after a Twitter user criticized her for her weight.
As previously reported by Billboard, after posting a screenshot of a user attacking Lizzo for her size, Lizzo went on a long Twitter rant, saying, “I JUST logged on and the app and this is the type of sh** I see about me on a daily basis.”
As Billboard also notes, Lizzo, who had previously weighed more than 300 pounds, according to Heavy, has generally kept her Twitter private to combat the negative comments she often receives about her weight
Lizzo continued, saying, “It’s really starting to make me hate the world. Then someone in the comments said I eat ‘lots of fast food.’ I LITERALLY STOPPED EATING FAST FOOD YEARS AGO… I’m tired of explaining myself all the time and I just wanna get on this app w/out seeing my name in some bulls–t.”
Lizzo has doubled down on her size in the past. In 2020, she told Brazil's G1, "There is a lack of representation in the world—full stop. Especially for women who look like me. But my choice process was to make myself visible, not to shrink. To be heard and use my platforms to raise other women. That's why I put black and big dancers and also an entire orchestra of black women on the Grammy stage—because I think that if I can help them, I must help them.”
Moreover, as the Daily Wire previously reported, Lizzo has insinuated she never wants to be thin and that she embraces her fatness, saying, "as I got more professional in my career, I started to take the physical part more seriously,” she said in a video posted on May 15. “I’ve always loved moving my body, I’ve always loved working out.... I think a lot of people see a fat person that way and immediately just assume everything they are doing is trying to be thin,” she went on. “I’m not trying to be thin, I don’t ever want to be thin.”
Continuing her rant, Lizzo tweeted, “The Love definitely do not outweigh the Hate on social media… all because I’m fat????”
Lizzo added, “Y’all don’t know how close I be to giving up on everyone and quitting and enjoying my money and my man on a F–KING FARM…”
Lizzo's Twitter is currently locked, although it is unclear what the current catalyst for that decision is.
