'Your Excuses Are Pathetic!': Mayorkas Impeachment Vote Fails After Eight Republicans Side With Democrats

On Monday evening, the House of Representatives took a decisive vote on whether or not to go forward with impeaching Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas after the top Biden official allowed millions of migrants per year to enter the United States illegally. The vote, however, failed as several Republicans failed to show up or join Democrats in opposing the measure. This all comes as House Speaker Mike Johnson attempts to rally House Republicans for a spending package before the government shutdown on Friday.

The House's final vote was 209 to 201 on the impeachment resolution brought by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) last Friday after two of her constituents died in a car crash with a human smuggler, as previously reported by the DC Enquirer. Greene introduced the articles by claiming that Mayorkas committed "high crimes and misdemeanors" while serving in the office meant to secure and protect the homeland. The resolution, if passed, would have advanced to the Homeland Security Committee as directed by a Democratic-led effort, with Speaker Johnson's approval, to quash Greene's privileged resolution, which needed to have been voted on within two days.

The following Republicans joined Democrats to vote against the impeachment resolution: Reps. Ken Buck (R-CO), Darrell Issa (R-CA), Tom McClintock (R-CA), Patrick McHenry (R-NC), John Duarte (R-CA), Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Cliff Bentz (R-OR), and Mike Turner (R-OH). In addition, the following Republicans were not present on the House floor to vote on the resolution: Reps. Jim Banks (R-IN), Vern Buchanan (R-FL), Larry Bucshon (R-IN), Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), Mike Ezell (R-MS), Pat Fallon (R-TX), Nancy Mace (R-SC), Alex Mooney (R-WV), Greg Pence (R-IN), Maria Salazar (R-FL), and Roger Williams (R-TX).

The House Republicans who failed to vote or decided to vote for Democrats received harsh criticism from conservatives, including the resolution's author. "To the 8 Republicans who voted with Dems to kill the impeachment of Mayorkas: How many more Americans have to die while you claim impeachment has to be done the 'right way?' My articles have been rotting in committee and now go back on the shelf," Greene wrote on X/Twitter following the vote. "Your excuses are pathetic!"

"Seriously, is there any reasonable argument for why Mayorkas should keep his job?" TPUSA President Charlie Kirk asked. "His entire tenure at DHS is one giant dereliction of duty with hundreds of thousands of dead Americans and 10 million illegals to show for it. How many terrorists has he let into America?"

The House Republicans who voted for Democrats need to answer to the American people for why they were unwilling to hold Mayorkas accountable for the disaster at the southern border. His negligence is irrefutable, and he should be impeached for his lack of action as millions enter the country illegally each year.
