AOC Launches Ridiculous Attack Against DeSantis For Defending Former Marine And 'Good Samaritan' Daniel Penny

On Friday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) tried to start beef with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) after the expected GOP presidential primary candidate defended Daniel Penny, the ex-marine who is facing unjust manslaughter charges after he put Jordan Neely in a fatal chokehold.

DeSantis previously took to Twitter last Friday to share a GiveSendGo link for the legal defense of the former Marine, as previously reported by the DC Enquirer. In his tweet, he attacked the city of New York for prosecuting Penny, saying, “We must defeat the Soros-Funded DAs, stop the Left’s pro-criminal agenda.” He also said that Penny was a “Good Samaritan” and America’s “got his back.”

As of this report, Penny's GiveSendGo campaign has accured over $2.7 million in donations.

"Daniel Penny is, a twenty-four-year-old college student and decorated Marine veteran, facing a criminal investigation stemming from him protecting individuals on a NYC subway train from an assailant who later died," the campaign explains. "Funds are being raised to pay Mr. Penny’s legal fees incurred from any criminal charges filed and any future civil lawsuits that may arise, as well as expenses related to his defense."

"All contributions are greatly appreciated," the description continued, adding, "Any proceeds collected which exceed those necessary to cover Mr. Penny’s legal defense will be donated to a mental health advocacy program in New York City."

Ocasio-Cortez was asked by a reporter on her exit from Jordan Neely’s funeral about her thoughts about DeSantis' statement, per the New York Post. The reporter asked, “AOC, what do you think about Governor DeSantis calling Penny a good Samaritan?”

The New York representative quickly snapped back with “I think he should read a Bible,” before rolling up her window and driving off.

Her words are clearly aimed to attack the Sunshine State governor, as the Bible is where the term ‘Good Samaritan’ first originates. The term comes from the Book of Luke, where a resident of Samaria, known as Samaritans, stops to help a man who had been injured and robbed as others walked by.

It seems odd that AOC refers DeSantis to a Bible while she pedals ideas in her position as a representative to destroy traditional understandings of family and gender. DeSantis is defending a man who was put in an unfortunate situation between his and his fellow subway passengers' safety, versus the safety of a mentally ill criminal.
