Governor Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) released a video that raised eyebrows over it being a campaign-style ad as rumors swelled about him jumping into the Republican primary for the 2024 presidential election, according to Just the News.
In the video, Governor Youngkin could be heard saying "It’s pretty overwhelming to contemplate the future of America...It’s such an honor to be here with proud Americans who carry on President Reagan’s cherished legacy...He brought peace by projecting strength. At a time when it’s easy for us to lose faith, to worry that we are indeed that one generation when freedom becomes extinct, there are lights shining."
The ad continued with Youngkin proclaiming that "We can usher in a new era of American values...President Ronald Reagan changed lives, and now it’s our turn. A time to choose life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness over oppression and dictatorial rule. That stakes are high and the consequences couldn’t be greater."

Glenn Youngkin promoted the video through his social media when he commented, "It’s time to usher in a new era of American values. It’s our turn to choose life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
As the DC Enquirer previously reported, the Governor of the Old Dominion earlier seemed to suggest that he would not put his hat into the presidential ring. His exact statement, when asked if he was interested, was that "No…I’m going to be working in Virginia this year."
He further explained that "And so our House and Senate are up for full reelection this year. We have a House that’s controlled by Republicans and a Senate that’s controlled by Democrats. I want to hold our House, and I’d like to flip our Senate. And I think we’re doing a really good job in Virginia, and I think this is a chance to bring that to voters."
Many pundits seized on his words "this year" as holding out the promise that he may enter the presidential race in 2024.
The Virginia Republican won a narrow, albeit upset, victory in 2021 when he won the governor's race after a long period from 2013 to 2021 of Democratic control of the Commonwealth's executive mansion.
Youngkin's term is set to be over in 2026 and the Virginian constitution forbids an incumbent governor from a consecutive bid for the same office.
