After Monday's sales, the smash hit ‘Sound of Freedom’ has managed to make ten times its budget by pulling in a massive $150 million, completely hitting expectations out of the park.
The movie originally premiered on the Fourth of July and immediately made its investment back, earning $14.2 million on opening day per BoxOfficeMojo. Since its release, it has been steadily increasing its sales numbers before reaching that massive $150 million mark. The movie did fall fourth this past weekend in ranking, behind the likes of ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ as well as Disney’s latest predicted flop ‘Haunted Mansion.’ The movie still managed to beat out the most recent ‘Mission Impossible’ despite having been released before it.
The movie has also seen massive support from numerous notable people, with 45th President Donald Trump hosting a showing of the film last week with the lead actor Jim Caviezel, director Eduardo Verástegui, and the man who inspired the film, Tim Ballard, all in attendance, per the DC Enquirer.
As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, the movie is about the real-life child sex trafficking ring that exists throughout Latin America and the United States. The movie itself is based on the true story of Tim Ballard, a former CIA agent, who becomes frustrated only capturing people who watched child pornography in the United States and not catching those responsible for making the evil product.
Despite the movie taking no actual political side, only ever occasionally mentioning Christian messaging within the film, the movie has garnered notable opposition from many members of the left. Many different media outlets have attempted to link the movie to QAnon despite having no actual ties apart from the idea of fighting child sex trafficking, a seemingly noble idea that shouldn’t have anyone rooting against it.
Bloomberg even had a writer criticize the film who had previously tweeted about how pedophiles are “a stigmatized group” and writing for Prostasia, a website that openly pushed for legalizing pedophilia, per the DC Enquirer. In the article, the author also attempted to downplay the child sex trafficking ring, acting as though even a single underage victim being trafficked somehow isn’t too many.
Despite the attempts to attack the movie by the media and the left, ‘Sound of Freedom’ has managed to become a massive hit and surpass anyone’s expectations. Even with the likes of ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ dominating the box office, the anti-trafficking film has a notable place in the line-up.
