Trump’s Untold Tales Of Kindness: In 1966, A Young Trump Helped Create The ‘MLK Jr. International Freedom Games’

In 1966, 20-year-old Donald Trump, who was a student at Penn’s Wharton School at the time, helped veteran, athlete, and Philadelphia activist Bert Lancaster with the creation of the “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. International Freedom Games.”

In August 2011, an article featured in the Philadelphia Daily News covering Bert Lancaster’s passing at the age of 83 revealed Trump’s involvement in the creation of the MLK Jr. International Freedom Games.

“[Lancaster] served on the Olympic Track Committee in 1984, sponsored the 1964 Philadelphia Summer Youth Games, and founded the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. International Freedom Games, which were broadcast in the United States, Europe, and the West Indies,” the piece reads.

“A young Penn Wharton Student named Donald Trump assisted him,” the article reveals.

The MLK Jr. International Freedom Games were held in 1969 at Villanova University in Pennsylvania and featured a letter from King’s widow, Coretta Scott King.

“The world of sports has done much to point the way toward the realization of our democratic ideals. With the scheduling of this Track and Field Meet, some of the top athletes of the world are saying by their deeds that together they care for the ideals which the Southern Christian Leadership Conference has furthered through the years, and for which my husband gave his life: justice and human dignity, non-violence and peace,” she wrote.

In 2017, while speaking at a private event following a tour of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, Trump said Martin Luther King, Jr. was “a man I have studied, watched, and admired for my entire life.”

MLK Jr.’s niece, Alveda King, who famously supports Trump and has defended him, once said, “Trump has done so much for all Americans, including African Americans. Trump is not a racist. I’ve had the experience of going head to head with genuine racists.”

This is only one example of Donald Trump’s untold acts of kindness. Throughout Trump’s life, he has saved many people’s lives and gifted lots of money to those in need. Sadly, most Americans have never heard about Trump’s loving side, not only due to the mainstream media but also because Trump chooses to not talk about his actions, which makes him even more sincere.

This piece is part of an ongoing series recounting the untold stories from Donald Trump's life as a successful real estate developer, New Yorker, and presidential candidate where he went above and beyond for his fellow Americans.
