BREAKING: Florida Legislature Clears The Way For Ron DeSantis To Run For President – ‘Will You Vote For Him?’

On Friday, the Florida legislature paved the way for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) to run for president without having to resign his post as governor of the Sunshine State.

Prior to this point, a Florida elected official was forced to resign from their post before they decided to run for another elected office, however, the legislature has sought to reform that law in order to allow DeSantis to challenge 45th President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination.

The legislators made an exception for the “resign-to-run” law by introducing an amendment that makes an exception for “persons seeking the office of President or Vice President of the United States.”

According to The Daily Wire, the Florida House passed the bill with 76 voting in favor and 34 voting against while nine lawmakers abstained. The Florida Senate passed the amendment on Wednesday in a vote of 28 in favor and 12 against.

DeSantis is expected to sign the bill into law in the coming days.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, Gov. DeSantis has recently struggled in the polls in recent weeks, however, many of his supporters believe that his announcement in mid-May will alter those figures.

Nevertheless, a new poll released from Emerson College on Thursday morning showed 45th President Donald Trump with the biggest lead yet over his Republican primary opponents for the 2024 nomination.

Emerson found that Trump had a momentous lead with 62 percent support amongst Republican voters. In contrast, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) only had 16 percent support among voters.

The poll also found that former Vice President Mike Pence had seven percent support, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy both had three percent, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson had two percent, and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Gov. Mike Sununu (R-NH) had 0.4 percent.

With Trump a dominant frontrunner for the GOP nomination, the hopes of unseating the former president will be a tough battle for DeSantis who has yet to be challenged on the national stage.
