Second Amendment Victory: DeSantis Takes A Stand Against 'Anti-Gun Wall Street' With Latest Legislation To Protect Floridians' Rights

On Friday, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) signed major legislation that would ban credit card companies from being able to track consumers' purchases of guns and gun-related products.

The bill, named Senate Bill 214, makes it so that credit card companies can no longer categorize firearms sales separately from general merchandise or sporting goods. If companies were to still do so, they would be punished through a fine by the state of Florida.

The official website for the bill states, “Sales of Firearms and Ammunition; Prohibiting payment settlement entities, merchant acquiring entities, or third party settlement organizations from assigning merchant category codes or otherwise classifying merchants of firearms or ammunition separately from general merchandise or sporting goods retailers; prohibiting entities involved in facilitating or processing payment card transactions from assigning to or requiring a merchant to use certain merchant category codes; authorizing the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to investigate certain alleged violations and bring administrative actions, etc.”

The legislation comes after many credit card companies have caved to the requests of the left to establish separate merchant codes for firearms. Breitbart reported that Visa was the first major credit card company to do so, but many other companies followed suit afterward.

There has still been major public backlash against the idea as well. Discover was intending to create separate merchant codes and issue them out in April of this year, however, they received major backlash for the decision. The backlash was severe enough that Discover eventually canceled their plans to do so, with major card companies like Visa and Mastercard also halting their plans, per CNN

National Shooting Sports Foundation’s general counsel and Senior Vice President Larry Keane praised DeSantis’ major legislative win, stating, “Governor DeSantis is standing up against a ‘woke’ initiative borne from the efforts of anti-gun Wall Street banks and their gun control allies in the media to use lawful private transactions as a means to usher in gun control.”

“No law-abiding American should be subjected to having their name and financial data being added to a government-accessible watchlist simply for exercising their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, ” Keane continued. “Governor DeSantis is ensuring that Floridians won’t be held captive by the radical ‘woke’ anti-gun agenda that seeks to weaponize credit cards in gun owners’ wallets against them.”

As the left continues to work to attack Americans' second amendment rights, Ron DeSantis has taken a major action to prevent further encroachment. It’s imperative that despite the leveled accusations and attempts to roll back citizens' constitutional rights the left make, Republican lawmakers stay strong in assuring law-abiding Americans can practice their rights.
