A freelance reporter for NBC News Benjamin Ryan committed the cardinal sin of journalism when he became a story on Monday. Ryan, in a now-deleted tweet, appeared to link the brutal murder of three nine-year-old children and three adults at a Nashville Christian school by a woman identifying as a transgender man to the conservative media outlet The Daily Wire which is based in that city.
The NBC freelancer seemed to imply that the massacre was somehow connected to the conservative outlet and its personalities; specifically, co-CEO Ben Shapiro, host and writer Michael Knowles, as well as host Matt Walsh who starred in “What Is A Woman?“, a documentary examining the cultural implications of transgenderism.
All three have criticized transgenderism and the overarching concepts of racial gender ideology as have many other Daily Wire content creators.
The murderer, 28-year-old Audrey Elizabeth Hale who identified as a man and was allegedly known as ‘Aiden’ was shot and killed by responding Nashville police officers after she slaughtered the children and teachers.

Ryan tweeted, “NBC has ID’d the Nashville school shooter as Audrey Hale, 28, who identifies as transgender and had no previous criminal record,” Ryan tweeted, continuing “Nashville is home to the Daily Wire, a hub of anti-trans activity by @MattWalshBlog, @BenShapiro and @MichaelJKnowles.”

Walsh advocated for banning so-called ‘gender-affirming care’ for minors and lobbied with other conservatives for Tennessee to pass HR 001 a statewide ban on sex-change procedures for minors signed into law Thursday by Governor Bill Lee.
He tweeted, “We’re fighting. We’re winning. And we aren’t even close to done.”

In 2022, Walsh, and The Daily Wire released a landmark investigative report about the Vanderbilt University transgender clinic. The report revealed the university, “Drugs, chemically castrates, and performs double mastectomies on minors.” The report prompted the state investigation and the eventual shutdown of the clinic in October 2022.
The New York Post reports that in response to the tweet, Ryan suffered severe backlash. One Twitter user wrote, “6 dead plus the shooter. But this is how they cover it. Their agenda is so freakin’ transparent,” according to the outlet. Another wrote with sarcastic intent tagging his employer, “@NBCNews You people only hire the best!”
Another Twitter user cited by the Post, characterized Ryan as a “gay activist masquerading as a journalist.”
Matt Walsh responded to the tweet, “NBC reporter @benryanwriter responds to shooting by trans extremists by pointing out that the Daily Wire is also in Nashville. The media is now openly sending violent psychopaths after us.”

Prior to his tweet aimed at The Daily Wire, Ryan also tweeted an image of Republican Congressman Andy Ogles and his family holding their rifles for a Christmas card picture, an evident attempt to criticize his pro-Second Amendment stance. This tweet was also taken down, likely because it ‘misgendered’ the murderer by describing her as a woman.
