The New York Times Issues A Correction After They ‘Misgendered’ The Transgender Nashville Shooter

This Monday, The New York Times issued a correction on Twitter after they apparently misgendered the Nashville Shooter, who happened to be a biological female identifying as a man.

“There was confusion later on Monday about the gender identity of the assailant in the Nashville shooting. Officials had used “she” and “her” to refer to the suspect, who, according to a social media post and a LinkedIn profile, appeared to identify as a man in recent months,” The New York Times tweeted.

The New York Times was replying to an article they tweeted earlier that day which identified the shooter as a woman. In the body of the article, they also issued a correction, stating, “there was confusion about the gender identity of the assailant in Nashville. Kristin Mumford, a police spokeswoman, said the suspect was born female but listed male pronouns on a LinkedIn profile, which suggested that the suspect was a transgender man. That profile had been active in recent months, reacting to two posts about other people’s career updates.”

The New York Times was not the only outlet that identified the shooter as a woman. USA Today initially called the shooter a “heavily armed woman” before backtracking in subsequent tweets — blaming it on the Nashville officials ‘misidentifying’ the gender of the shooter.

“Police on Monday afternoon said that the shooter was a transgender man. Officials had initially misidentified the gender of the shooter,” USA Today reported.

In turn, conservatives pounced on these Tweets with remarkable strength. Daily Wire host Matt Walsh claimed The New York Times correction was, “the most disgusting and insane tweet I think I’ve ever seen from a media organization, and that is certainly saying a lot.”

Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk tweeted, “Suddenly, there’s no interest from MSM in honoring someone’s ‘preferred pronouns,'” in reply to The New York Times tweet.

Charlie Kirk added, “The New York Times has apologized for misgendering the shooter. 6 people were murdered, but the New York Times is worried about offending the Trans lobby.”
