Jim Jordan Forces the Hand of Senior Biden Official Responsible for ‘Disinformation’ Censorship

Nina Jankowicz, the former head of the Department of Homeland Security’s Disinformation Governance Board, announced that she will testify before the Republican House of Representatives as per Just The News. This announcement comes after Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH), the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, was forced to issue a subpoena to her and other Biden officials as part of an ongoing investigation of the weaponization of the federal government.

Former director Jankowicz tweeted that “I will happily testify to the truth of the Board under oath: That it was a working group meant to address disinformation that endangered Americans’ safety, and that — because of the Republican Party’s irresponsible lies about it — our democracy is less secure.”

Indeed, she was apparently so happy to testify that she allegedly previously refused to voluntarily come before Congress and only agreed to do so after she was issued a subpoena to do so. Given her statement, it appears that she is of the mind that she did not do anything wrong or was part of anything concerning during her brief tenure of the approximately four-month-long life of the institution she led.

Indeed, in an interview she gave with Politico, she commented that “It’s hard for boring truths to outpace inflammatory lies. They’re [Republican politicians and media pundits] saying the opposite of what’s on paper. Everything is disproven by documents they have in their possession. They’re just assuming nobody is going to read them.”

Whistleblower information as previously noted by the DC Enquirer would seem to contradict Nina Jankowicz’s proclamation of the innocence of the institution she directed. Quoting from that article, “[a]s noted by whistleblower documents, however, the scope of the Board was much more far-reaching that as it encompassed plans to be the point of contact for the public and private sectors on information curation and the Board’s definition of misinformation was unclear.” Perhaps she under oath will be able to correct and clarify what was written in those whistleblower documents. 

Mr. Jordan stated his concern about the weaponization of the federal government to the John Solomon Podcast. In particular, the Ohio Republican said, “The fundamental fact is when you have a federal agency, which thinks it can be the arbiter of what you can say what you can’t say, when it can decide what’s appropriate speech, what isn’t, that is not how the First Amendment works. In fact, it’s a direct violation, direct attack on the First Amendment.”

The broader revelations that the federal government has played an active role in censoring viewpoints – even if they contained truthful information – certainly points to a problematic centralization of power and showcases their eagerness to weaponize the power of their office. In fact, the amount of scandals in the department that the former director was employed under relating to censorship of views demonstrates this.
