Conservative Speaker Matt Walsh Forced to Take Action After Threats to Family Following Nashville Shooting

Daily Wire personality Matt Walsh announced Wednesday that he was postponing a scheduled speech at Washington and Lee University after threats were made against his family.

“Sadly I have to postpone my speech at Washington and Lee University,” Walsh stated in a Twitter thread Wednesday. “Due to threats against my family and other serious security concerns in Nashville this week, I cannot leave my family and fly to another state.”

“I hate to push the event off but my wife and kids come first,” Walsh added.

The city of Nashville has been in a state of increased security following a shooting at a private Christian School that took the lives of 3 adults and 3 children on Monday.

Daily Wire is headquartered in Nashville, and many personalities and staff, including Walsh, have had to experience the tragedy firsthand.

“The potential danger is at home, which is why I need to be at home,” Walsh clarified later in the thread.

Walsh has been a very outspoken critic of the transgender movement and has been on the front lines of the fight against transgender ideology. His documentary entitled, ‘What is a Woman,’ released on Daily Wire+ last year, now has a 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. In addition to the success of the documentary, Walsh was the one who highlighted the profit-driven approach by Vanderbilt University Medical Center regarding “gender-affirming” healthcare. Walsh organized a rally at the Tennessee state capitol last October in response, an event that saw thousands of concerned citizens descend on the Tennesee capitol.

Tennesee Governor Bill Lee (R) signed a bill earlier this month barring “gender-affirming” healthcare for minors in the state of Tennesee, the culmination of the efforts of Walsh and The Daily Wire.

“The threats to my family only make me more determined to fight this evil,” Walsh continued later in the thread. “I will not let any harm come to my children or my wife. And I will not let these psychopaths scare me into silence. Neither of those things will ever happen, I promise you.”

Young Americans for Freedom, the organization sponsoring the event, released a statement Thursday. “We completely understand Matt’s decision to postpone tomorrow’s speech. His duties as a husband and father, as well as the safety of his family, come first,” Michael McGonigle, a spokesperson for YAF, told The Daily Caller.

The Washington and Lee University College Republicans, the organization hosting Walsh, announced Thursday that the event would be postponed. “Due to recent threats on the lives of Matt Walsh and his family following the Tennessee Shooting, his speech in Lee Chapel is postponed til further notice.”
