Border Patrol run-ins with illegal immigrants at the U.S. Southern Border continue to approach record highs with over 207,000 encounters in June alone. Of those over 200,000 — about 92,274 were expelled under Title 42, a pandemic health order which allows for deportation in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over two-thirds of those encountered at the border were single adults, with 78,000 being single and 14,000 being part of a family unit.
June represents the biggest upsurge in migrant encounters since the year 2000. Despite this, President Joe Biden has yet to visit the border to witness the impact of his failed policies.
The number of unaccompanied children did increase, however, compared to May from 14,678 to 15,271.
Customs & Border Control Commissioner Chris Magnus said in a statement that,“My message to those considering taking this dangerous journey is simple: this is not an easy passage, the human smugglers only care about your money – not your life or the lives of your loved ones, and you will be placed in removal proceedings from the United States if you cross the border without legal authorization and are unable to establish a legal basis to remain.”

Additionally, compared to May, June saw drug seizures fluctuate with cocaine seizures going up 62 percent, methamphetamine seizures rising 14 percent, heroin seizures decreasing 49 percent, and fentanyl seizures decreasing 41 percent.
These increased encounters — along with drug seizure and cartel activity — come as Biden has repeatedly attempted to lift Title 42 but has been stopped by federal judges, per The Texas Tribune.
With this significant shift in policy from the White House and Biden’s inaction in protecting the southern border, Democrats are continuing to repeal Trump-era policies to their own detriment.
The Supreme Court recently sent back a case to a Texas federal court, on Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy. The Biden administration is attempting to end that policy in an effort to soften the southern border.
With the Biden administration continuing to ignore the crisis at the border, these record migrant encounters will likely not end any time soon.
