In 2:30 A.M. Memo, Elon Musk Demands Pampered Twitter Employees Get Back to the Office

Twitter CEO Elon Musk, who took over the social media platform in October 2022, has demanded that employees return to the office after he has spent the past few months attempting to get Twitter back on track with employees present in person.

Musk reportedly sent the memo to employees at around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning insisting that “office is not optional.”

Following Musk’s $44 billion purchase of the company, he hasn’t been afraid to rustle the feathers of employees long accustomed to the luxurious conditions under the previous management.

As previously reported by the DC Enquirer, to cut costs the billionaire set out to rid Twitter headquarters in San Francisco, California of all of its luxuries which included expresso machines, private chefs, and various other amenities demanded by Twitter employees.

In doing so, Musk created a “hardcore” culture as he let go over 50% of the staff while demanding that all remaining employees work in the office for long hours, according to Newsmax.

Musk’s changes come as the pampered employees in San Francisco enjoyed years of remote work due to Covid-19 policies pushed by the state and local government.

Musk’s changes, however, seem to be in line with his own work philosophy given his reputation of working long hours throughout the night, as evidenced by the 2:30 a.m. memo.

According to a Labor Department memo released this week, as reported by Fox Business, 72.5 percent of businesses said their employees worked rarely from home while 60 percent said the same thing in 2021.

As more and more companies attempt to transition back to in-office work, workers who have gotten used to the remote environment are having difficulty with the transition. CEOs like Musk, however, aren’t taking their excuses.
